Apple bar recipe...

Here is the apple bar recipe that was I referring to in my last post.

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup lard (she used butter flavored crisco)
1 egg yolk put in a bigger measuring cup and then add milk to the 2/3 cups mark
1 cup crushed corn flakes (I crushed them in a small sandwich bag with the rolling pin)
4-5 large apples
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
slightly beaten egg white from the above egg.

Mix flour, sugar, salt, crisco, and egg yolk with milk. Mix well, this will be your dough. It says to use a 9 x 13 pan but we used my large bar pan from Pampered Chef and if you do that you have to double the dough recipe...

Roll it out and place it on the bottom of you pan. Sprinkle the crushed corn flakes over dough and put sliced apples on top of corn flakes. Mix 1 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle over the apples. Roll out remaining dough or make another batch and lay on top of the apples. Slightly beat the egg white and brush it on top of the dough. Bake at 350 degrees about an hour or until apples are tender. She poked a fork in the apples to make sure they were tender. Set out to cool and top with any kind of frosting....cream cheese is my favorite!! Enjoy!!
